Fix, Sell, Remodel

Sometimes it's best to go back to the beginning and start over, don't you think? That's what we've decided to do anyway.

What am I talking about? Well, we've decided to sell our house and move into our rental house. When Mad Scientist and I first got married, the rental was our house. I couldn't wait to leave and get a place of our own. The last few years we've rented it for additional income. Now, however, we are ready to move back.

There are several reasons for this move: we owe very little on it, it's bigger, there's more privacy, and it has a back deck surrounded by trees at the end of a dead end street. Sounds great, right?

Unfortunately, it's in need of some serious tender loving care and a facelift. The house is your typical red brick ranch. It doesn't have fancy ceilings or a two-car garage like my house does now, but I think I can get past that for the time being, especially since we plan to completely remodel the house.

New windows. New floors. New paint. New kitchen. New bathrooms. Finished basement. I've already got my "Renovate" pinterest board full. :)

I especially love this beige, white and black in the kitchen. We're going with white/off-white kitchen cabinets this time, so I think this would look great. What do you think? Do you like it? I really like the black doors too. I may even give that a try as well.

The rental house has a big picture window in front that will need replacing. This living room window is similar in size to ours. When we replace the windows, I think I'd really like this layout.
Right now we're just day dreaming. First, we have to sell our house. We made a list of things to fix and/or update before putting it on the market. Luckily, we don't have anything too daunting. The one thing that will take a little time and I'm not looking forward to is the landscaping around the driveway. I just don't have a green thumb.

This picture of our current home was in our adoption profile.
Anyway, who knows when all this will actually happen. We heard the market is picking up in our price range, so maybe we won't have to wait too long. I can't wait to start showing off before and after pictures.

Have any of you done a large scale remodel? If so, do you have any tips? Any must-haves to include in the renovations?
