Adoption Tax Credit

Wednesday, August 14, 2013
Yes, I'm posting about the adoption tax credit once again. There are still some amazing members of Congress working diligently to reinstate the refundable part of the adoption tax credit.

When we began our adoption journey, we were hoping we would get to utilize the new refundable adoption tax credit that was part of President Obama's Affordable Care Act. Unfortunately, we were not able to adopt before the refundable part of the credit expired. We were truly counting on this to help us with our adoption. It's not easy to come by thousands and thousands of dollars, especially when it seems we are continually paying agency and attorney fees. While it's postponed us from getting a new vehicle, that's about it. Many couples aren't as lucky. Just think of all the children out there that could be with their forever families if they could afford to pay the exorbitant costs of adoption!

Adoption Tax Credit

Thankfully, the adoption community is still fighting for the refundable part of the adoption tax credit. You can keep up with the adoption tax credit advocacy group by visiting Save the Adoption Tax Credit or by "liking" them on Facebook. Even if you aren't an adoptive parent or part of the adoption community, chances are you know someone who is, and they (we) need your help. It's as simple as contacting your representatives in Congress. The Save the Adoption Tax Credit website has several simple ways you can reach out to your representatives. They even have a sample letter you can send via mail or email. There's really no work involved other than taking the time to sign your name to the letter and mail/email it to your representatives. If you aren't sure who represents your state, you can locate that information by clicking HERE.

Remember, don't underestimate the power of your voice and your story.  Members of Congress support bills that matter to their constituents. This adoptive mama thanks you in advance!
