If someone had told me the "true" waiting period of an adoption in Kentucky, I don't know if we would have gone through with it. Not because we wouldn't want to, but because it takes FOREVER. We thought we understood, but obviously we didn't. We thought we would be matched, termination papers signed (in a perfect world), 90 days later we'd go to court and it would all be over.

Not so much.

One birth parent signed termination papers. The other did not. Ninety days passed and only then did the attorney begin termination proceedings for the other parent. Once the paperwork was served, we had to wait another two weeks. Now, we wait on the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) appointed for Zoey to submit her report to terminate the other parent's rights. Two weeks later and no report.

Apparently, everything is still going "fast" considering other adoptions. Once the report is finally submitted, the court has 10 days to schedule a hearing, at least that's what we've been told, but who really knows? After the termination is granted, only then can we file our petition to adopt here at home.

I can't help but be impatient. I told our social worker I felt like this GAL was dragging her feet. She assured I's. And of course, that's what we want too. I am just so ready for it to be over and official.
me the GAL is simply trying to cross all her T's and dot all her

Regardless, it's still worth the wait. :)
