Peace Love Kayak

Friday, June 01, 2012
Last evening, we took the kayaks out again for another ride. This time, we went with another couple. My husband likes to take us out in the middle of nowhere to ride. Usually, it's a pretty quiet place. His family has land somewhere around there. Half the time it's under water, so it's hit and miss getting there. Anyway, it's beautiful. The road is right at water level in most places, so it appears there's not even a road when you're in the water. Imagine Deliverance. ;)

I couldn't help but mention, after we'd paddled for awhile, that it was a good thing DH didn't watch Wrong Turn or any other "lost in the woods" scary movie because this was the perfect setting. As we started around a shady corner, we could hear voices in the distance. Recently, our town was invaded by the Rainbow Family. They show up every year and camp somewhere in our national forest. There have been a lot of sightings, but so far we hadn't seen them.

The boys wouldn't let us round the bend to see if in fact it was the "hippies" (that's what we call them around here). I just knew it was them. In fact, we had to turn around and head back to our put-in. Surely it was a coincidence I had just mentioned the scary movies. LOL

Anyway, we headed back and would you know, when we paddled back to our cars, there they were! Big, painted school bus and all. There might have even been a slight grassy aroma floating through the air. I couldn't help but laugh, especially after staring at the green alien plastered on the back of the bus. Hysterical.

I tried to get a picture, but it wasn't meant to be. Maybe next time. You never know what you'll find around here.
