The Most Wonderful Time of the Year... or is it?

Yesterday kicked off the holiday shopping season around our little town. Many of the local businesses host their annual Holiday Open House on the first Saturday of November. It was a great day for it too. You can park downtown and walk up and down main street visiting all the open houses. I bought a couple of Christmas presents yesterday and sampled all kinds of yummy holiday treats from apple cider to oreo balls.

Despite the festive atmosphere, it still doesn't feel like the holiday season. Usually by this time, I'm ready to break out the Christmas decorations and start looking for anything new I want to add to my tree. I'm thinking it may be because we spent the last week of October in sunny Florida. I must still be in vacation/summer mode. One of my sisters put up one of her trees yesterday (she was at the open houses yesterday too). I noticed last night that D.ish has their holiday music channels on as well. I think I'm going to wait until after Thanksgiving to put up my tree this year, or at least the week of Thanksgiving. Since we are going to Pigeon Forge, TN for Thanksgiving, I may put it up a few days before, so it's ready to go when we get home.

I will say I am looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. This is a kinda sorta new thing for us to do. We've been to Pigeon Forge the weekend after Thanksgiving, but never for it. We have reservations for lunch on Thursday and plans to see several holiday shows. I'm hoping to do some shopping at the outlets as well. I'm pretty sure by the end of Thanksgiving weekend I'll be in full out holiday mode. :)
