Different can be good

I've recently come to a realization. What works for my husband and me must not work for everyone. Where did this thought come from? Well, from something silly. Last week, I purchased my Christmas gift from my husband. Yep, I bought it. He is the world's worst shopper. He tells me to find what I want, give it to him and then he wraps it and puts it under the tree. This may bother some people, but not me. It works just fine.

My new Coach purse and wallet arrived yesterday just in time to go under the tree. I walked in and sat down in the floor in front of him, holding my big box.

DH: "What's in the box?"
Me: "Oh, it's my gift from you for Christmas."
DH: "Awesome. What did I get you?"
Me: "Let's open it and see."

He thought he did a great job with my gift this year. LOL

We're also very independent. We love spending time together and doing things together, but we also enjoy our alone time. We've never had the kind of relationship where one of us says the other can't do something. For example:

Me: "Honey, I'm going to Florida with the girls for a week. I already bought my plane ticket."
DH: "That's great! You'll have a blast!"

or

DH: "I'm going to XYZ concert with John Doe. We're going to camp out in the bus."
Me: "Thank God I don't have to go. Have fun and don't get arrested."

I know several couples that don't have a relationship like this. It makes me sad, not to mention I just don't understand it, but I guess they have their own quirks that work for them.

So, today I am thankful for an understanding hubby. :)

  1. It sounds like you have a GREAT relationship! I will be the first to admit ours is not the greatest, on it's best day. But we try, and we're still here.
To have that kind of trust and understanding is VERY special.
