Time to get healthy!

Back in August I wrote about having to take a new medication. My potassium levels just wouldn't stabilize. Have you ever taken a potassium pill? It's huge! Anyway, (I might have mentioned this before, can't remember) I no longer have to take them. My blood pressure medication had a diuretic in it, which was causing the fluctuations in my potassium. It wasn't the preeclampsia after all! Unfortunately, my migraines have officially returned. I've had two in the past two days. My doctor has put me back on the medication I was on before the pregnancy that helped my migraines. My preventative medication is also a blood pressure medication, so I'm able to kill two birds with one stone. I've been back on it for about a week, but it doesn't seem to be helping my bp. It looks like I might have to not only take this medication, but another bp med as well. Really? I'm hoping and praying that I can lose some weight and it will help my bp. However, there's still the chance that the preeclampsia side effects won't care about my weight loss and my bp will stay the same. Ridiculous, huh?

Anyway, I'm giving it the old college try. My goal is 30 pounds by next spring/summer. I'm off to a slow start, but I've really been keeping within my Weight Watchers boundaries and trying to rewire my brain to eat healthier and take better care of myself. I've been successful the past 3 weeks, but the scales still haven't been my friend. That being said, I have lost, just not as much as I'd like.

I guess my ultimate goal, besides weight loss, is to be healthier. Preeclampsia has recently been added as a risk factor for heart disease in women. One doctor compared it to having failed a stress test. This STRESSES me! I need to be as healthy as I can be to help prevent anything that may possibly come my way later in life. There's no time like the present to get going.

I welcome any and all encouragement along the way. Lord knows I'm going to need it, especially with the holidays on their way!

  3. Have you taken topamax before for migraines? It's used off-label, but it worked wonders for mine! It also killed my appetite. Ask your doctor. Seriously. Changed my life! Good luck.
