Hopeful, Excited and Scared... Oh my!

Monday, January 03, 2011
I haven't seen 6 AM in two weeks. This morning, both DH and I went back to work. Our sweet little fur baby couldn't understand why in the world we were up so early! LOL It actually felt good to get back to our "normal" routine. We've been diligently working on our adoption homework for our home study and adoption classes. I can't help it, but I'm excited! We both are. We're hopeful that we could get matched this year, we're excited just to be getting started and yet I'm terrified that I even feel this way.

This weekend we had a long talk about open adoption. At first, we weren't too thrilled with the idea, yet we were open to a semi-open adoption (letters and pictures sent to the agency and then sent on to the birthparents.) After having read the books given to us for class and lots of talk with other adoptive parents and birthparents (gotta love the internet), we've decided an open adoption is the only adoption we would even want to consider. For one, can you even see yourself making an adoption plan for your child and not knowing the names of the people you were placing him/her with? Or where they live? That's just ridiculous. Every child deserves to know his or her family history, where those big baby blues come from or their curly hair. Obviously, these are little things in the grand scheme of it all, but you catch my drift, right?

We are very aware that our family and friends may feel a little uncomfortable at first, but I know eventually they'll have no trouble at all. Our hope and desire is that our child's birth family can be an extension of our own, another set of loving, wonderful relatives, so to speak. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Anyway, I think we're both starting to see and feel some hope again and it feels good.

  4. We were also willing to do open adoption, it just turned out that our daughters first mother did NOT want any contact...the grandmother asked for pictures to be submitted to the agency, but she has never picked them up. We never even met her, she relinquished after birth, and all we have a picture and medical records of her family. You never know how everything will fall into place. Good luck! No matter how you become parents it will be right.
