Mini Adoption Update

Wednesday, December 29, 2010
We received our official notification that we were accepted by the agency a few weeks ago. Since then, we received a family history packet we have to fill out and turn in at our first class. This thing is several pages long with several questions attached to each question. SHOO! I started to write out my responses, but after writing two pages (college ruled) for the first question, I decided to type out my answers. So far I have 7 single-spaced typed pages and I'm not finished. When they say there's a lot of paperwork involved with adopting, they weren't kidding!

We also have three books to read: The Open Adoption Book, Making Room in our Hearts, and Adopting After Infertility. I've read a little bit of all three. The AAI book doesn't really apply to our situation, but the end result is the same. I've really enjoyed TOAB so far. It's really eased some of my fears with open adoptions. The more I learn about open adoption, the more I find myself easing into it. I haven't read too much of MRioH, so I don't have much to say about it yet.

Our classes start January 15th. We're really looking forward to getting started. It should be an interesting month! :)

  3. I'll have to check out those books! We just received notification we were accepted to an agency also, but we've decided to go through an attorney, because it's going to be about $10,000 cheaper.

Good luck and I hope everyone continues to go smooth!
